This French tapestry is from New Caledonia a large island located off of Australia. New Caledonia is very beautiful and was my first stop in visiting the South Pacific. I traveled to New Caledonia from the South Island of New Zealand.
During world war two New Caledonia was a major US installation fighting the Japanese. Several tapestries where purchased while traveling through the South Pacific, two of which came from the Gauguin museum in Tahiti.
From New Caledonia I travel to the island of Lefou where I stayed with the tribal king who took me scuba diving.
From Lefou I traveled on through the South Pacific to the islands of Yap, Plow, Micronesia, and all the way down through many islands of Tahiti, Bora-Bora and eventually Easter Island.
